Robbins Police blotter for February

The Robbins Police Department provided the following information for February.
Week 1:
Robert Hill – Robbins police officers observed Hill allegedly trespassing at a local business. Hill was charged with trespassing and banned from the location.
Martin Levon – Charged with impersonating a police officer.
Week 2:
Carlos Hernandez-Perez – Traffic stop for no left headlamp. He was charged/cited for driving while license revoked, failure to notify DMV of address change, and driving without two headlamps.
Robert Chisholm – Traffic stop for expired tags and for allegedly failing to stop at a stop sign. The officer charged Chisholm with driving while license revoked, failure to identify registration, no liability insurance, expired registration tag, failure to wear seat belt, possession of open container in passenger area, failure to stop at a stop sign, expired inspection, and failure to carry registration card in the vehicle.
Week 3:
Destiny Ritter – At a motor vehicle accident, Ritter allegedly gave officers a false name. Ritter was charged with identity theft, resisting a public officer, and a giving a false name.
Thomas Jones – Traffic stop for an order for arrest. Along with serving the order for arrest, Jones was charged with possession of cocaine, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling place of controlled substance, concealed gun, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of schedule II (Xanax).
Tony Smith – Officers passed the home of his spouse, who had a protection order. Officers observed Smith allegedly coming from the home; he was charged with 50B order violation.
Andrew Jaimes – Traffic stop for displaying an altered registration plate. Jaimes was charged with driving while license revoked, expired registration card, fictitious or altered tag, and expired inspection.
Week 4:
Isaul Carreto-Santizo – Officers were called for a person passed out behind the wheel at the traffic light at North Moore Road and Highway 705. Robbins Police Chief Ben Haddock said an officer tried to wake the driver by banging on the window. After attempting to break a window for entry without success, the driver woke up, turned up his radio, and drove away, leading the officer on a chase through town. Following a brief pursuit, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and tried to gain entry to a house, according to Haddock. The suspect did not listen to commands from the officer, and he then used nonlethal force to stop the subject. He was charged with flee and elude, impeded traffic, reckless driving, aggressive driving, no operator’s license, open container of alcohol after consumption, failure to stop at a red light, drive left to center, failure to maintain lane control, exceeded the posted speed limit, driving while impaired, resisting public officer, assault on a government official, and injury to personal property for allegedly running into the officer’s car.
Monica Arroyo and Michael Rego-Bartlett – Both individuals were stopped for allegedly stealing a cellphone from an employee at a local business. They were charged with larceny, possession of stolen goods, aiding and abetting, two counts of driving while license revoked, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct, and Rego-Bartlett had an order for arrest.
Antoneo Olvera-Gomez – Charged with shoplifting, consuming goods, driving while license revoked, trespassing, and was banned from the location.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Highway ramp closes after sand truck overturns

A highway ramp in Cameron was closed for several hours on Monday morning after a semi-truck overturned, spilling sand.
The truck was traveling on the Highway 24-27 exit to Highway 1 northbound when it overturned and spilled sand in the grass off the ramp.

Motorists were delayed as they were rerouted around the single-vehicle wreck.
No injuries were reported, according to the Highway Patrol.
This is the second time Sandhills Sentinel has covered an overturned semi-truck this month. A semi overturned on Highway 1 in Southern Pines on April 4.

Car flips in Southern Pines

A Toyota driver traveling on May Street, just past Valley View Road in Southern Pines, swerved Monday afternoon to avoid crashing into a vehicle that was stopped and waiting to turn, according to officials at the scene of the single-vehicle wreck.
The Mazda flipped into a small ditch off the roadway. The car sustained significant damage, leaving its roof nearly flat.
No injuries were reported to the vehicle’s passengers, and no other cars were involved in the wreck, according to officials on the scene.
Responding agencies were Moore County EMS, Southern Pines Fire Department and the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Clearing operations begin for Midland Road improvements
The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin clearing and grubbing operations on a stretch of Midland Road in Pinehurst this week.
Beginning April 29, crews will conduct selective tree removal ahead of turn lane construction and median crossover removals.
Tree removal work will take place between Airport Road and Grant Street and is expected to last through the week.
Crossover expansions will begin in early to mid-May in preparation for road resurfacing in the coming months.
This is the first of several projects to improve safety and driver efficiency in the area along with improving bike and pedestrian connectivity.
Motorists are reminded to use caution while driving through the project site and watch for signs and flaggers as work progresses.
